Diaspora: The Road North
(In Development)
The Mexican gray wolf is one of the most endangered animals in North America. Once eliminated from the wild, fewer than 300 now roam the Southwest. Their return is fragile, yet transformative: where wolves thrive, ecosystems recover, rivers heal, and life flourishes.
Diaspora: The Road North is a film about more than recovery. It is about recognition. Wolves deserve a seat at the table in the future of conservation in the Southwest. Their survival is not only a biological issue, but a cultural one. This story is about how we as people choose to coexist, guided by voices that have carried this knowledge for generations.
Traditional Ecological Knowledge shows us a way forward. Indigenous communities have long understood that wolves are kin, teachers, and keepers of balance. By reconnecting to this wisdom, we rediscover that restoring wolves means restoring ourselves.
Why this film matters
Wolves are keystone species. Their presence rebuilds ecosystems that sustain both wildlife and people.
Traditional knowledge leads the way. Indigenous perspectives reframe wolves as partners in resilience, not adversaries.
Stories shift culture. This film is designed to challenge old narratives and open space for coexistence.
Our vision
As a short film, Diaspora is built to spark conversation and action. Through festivals, classrooms, and community screenings, it will bring wolves into the public dialogue as living participants in the future of the Southwest. By amplifying TEK and scientific voices side by side, the film will invite audiences to see wolves not as outsiders, but as part of the circle of belonging.
